[Photo: Courtesy]The National Super Alliance (Nasa) has pledged the commemoration of national holidays with the respect, dignity and inclusion that would enable Kenya, a wide appreciation and participation. In a communication, presidential running mate Kalonzo Musyoka expressed concern after Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga, a former prime minister, was overlooked during Madaraka Day fete in Nyeri.During the 54th celebrations, president Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto snubbed Raila who was in attendance, besides failing to acknowledge his presence.“This was a clear demonstration of the divisiveness with which Jubilee has run this country for the last four years. It does not serve the interests of Kenya for Jubilee to try to ignore the facts and hope to undermine the quest of Kenyans to put in place a new administration,” said Kalonzo.Unlike Jubilee, Kalonzo said the 55th Madaraka Day in 2018, would serve as a uniting factor for the people, since they would have assumed power."We shall bring together and celebrate all the heroes who fought for the independence of this country; who fought for economic empowerment of our people; who have fought for the expanded democratic space in this nation; those who paid the ultimate price for democracy,” he added. The Deputy Presidential candidate emphasised that Madaraka Day 2018 would be a day to celebrate true self-rule for all Kenyans.“Those who have suffered over the last four years of Jubilee’s maladministration; those who cannot feed themselves because of the high cost of living and escalating ‘unga’ prices; those who have succumbed to illness due to lack of equipment; those who are unable to get medical attention because of the high cost of health care; those who are on a daily basis forced to carry the burdens of corruption which only feeds a minority will have a true Madaraka Day that addresses the long-suffering they have endured,” he said, Friday.
