Mombasa Transport and Infrastructure CeC Waziri Taufiq Balala accompanied by a technical team from the Department of Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works including the two Chief Officers, Eng. Albert Keno and Thomas Chula, toured the ongoing restoration of the Mombasa CBD on Tuesday.
The restoration programme is part of the multiple projects the County Government of Mombasa is planning to undertake to restore its status as a major tourist destination in East and Central Africa.
The works include rehabilitation of walkways, beautification, road marking among others to make Mombasa a habitable place to all inclusive of pedestrians.
"Wonderful work has so far been done and we are targeting more areas including engaging owners of buildings that are yet to comply with the new painting regulations and patching of all potholes in the CBD among others," he said.
Some of the streets being repaired include Moi Avenue and Digo Road.
