Chacha said the county government will contribute less than one million to the ceremony that will be held today (Tuesday) at the Mama Ngina grounds.

He said they do not intend to spend a lot of tax payer’s money on the ceremony as claimed by a section of the media.

“We do not have a huge budget, as our basic requirements are the printing of invitation cards, putting up of the dias and maybe water,” said Chacha as quoted by Baraka FM.

Earlier on, Mombasa County Secretary Francis Thoya had said that the governor ordered his inauguration budget of Sh15 million to be slashed by more than 80 per cent.

He, however, did not highlight what the slashed amount would be used for.

“There was no physical budget as such, it was just an estimate figure so the county finance department will only release the 15 per cent budget approved by the governor which might even be lesser as most of the inauguration budget is being sponsored by friends and family,” added Chacha.
