The Tuesday ruling by the High Court legalising sex relations between cousins is by far misplaced. It is a ruling that community activists should appeal the directive as a matter of urgency.

Since when did incest become legal in African culture, and more specifically the Kenyan setting? I strongly believe incest is a taboo that should never be allowed to thrive in a society that is already battling with decayed morals.

Justice Makau of the High Court should not be proud to have delivered a trending court ruling, but should rather imagine himself attending his daughter's wedding to a close cousin.

I guess back at his home Mutua has never failed to advise his sons and daughters that incest is real and is also a taboo as per our African culture. If he has already encouraged his offsprings or rather siblings to adopt cousin relationships, then let it not go beyond his misplaced Tuesday ruling.

Think of Nairobi city. How many boys and girls are being accommodated by their cousins? How many of them are now travelling to the various towns in search of jobs but to be hosted by their cousins as they try to make ends meet? I can even assume that at one time Makau must have been accommodated by a cousin who never sought sexual favours from him.

I wish Kenyans recognise that not everything associated with the Western culture is perfect. There are some things that ought to be rebuked, and this ruling by judge Makau is one such.

For now, let us wait for the wise Mugabe to create some wise words to advise our learned judge.
