A court in Mombasa has stopped the delivery of new ferries that was set for July 26 and September 10 2017.
This is after Kenya Ferry Services terminated a contract given to a firm in Turkey to inspect the vessels.
The delivery of two new ferries, worth sh2 billion from Turkey, has been suspended due to a contract dispute between the firm and KFS.
Justice Erick Ogola stopped the delivery after Bonriz Insurance Marine Surveyors, which was given the tender in March 7 this year, appeared in court to protest against a decision made by KFS seeking new bids to inspect the ferries.
Bonriz Insurance Marine Surveyors Limited, having sued Kenya Ferry Services, received interim orders barring the delivery of the new ferries.
The new ferries were ordered to salvage a dire situation at Kenya’s second largest city, after numerous cases of ferry mishaps were reported early this year.
