The report from the Assembly Fisheries Committee argues that imported fish from China has helped to increase the supply of fish in the country.

The committee chair Fanuel Aim said that fish imported from China enters the country via Mombasa port and the imported fish is sold in Mombasa, Nairobi and other town centers.

Fanuel said that production of fish in Lake Victoria has dropped from 5,000 tones to 2,600 tonnes per annum.

“Kisumu county exports to China frozen Nile Perch fillets and fish maws every year of higher value than what it imports. Last year 100 tonnes worth Sh140 million were exported to China," he said in a statement.
