Police in Malindi have arrested a secondary school principal for allegedly defiling a student.

Athman Aden, the head teacher at Mere secondary school, is alleged to have lured the girl, a form four student, to Watamu during the second term mid-term break before defiling her.Security officers raided the home of the principal on Wednesday and arrested him following the incident which is said to have taken place two weeks ago.Confirming the arrest, Malindi OCPD Matawa Muchangi said investigations into the incident are underway.According to a source quoted by The Star, the head teacher is alleged to have asked the student to remain behind and wait for him after the other students left the school compound."On that day, the teacher told the girl they would spend the night in Watamu where they allegedly had sexual intercourse," said the source."After spending the night, he dropped her at Kwachocha area and called the girl's parents and asked them to pick their daughter," added the source, as quoted by the daily.The parents are said to have then reported the matter to the police.The girl was later taken to the Malindi sub-county hospital where doctors confirmed she had been defiled.The suspect is being held at the Malindi police station pending his court hearing.
