Kikuyu sub-county police boss Joshua Arende has raised an alarm over the number of suicide cases in Rungiri dam.
This is after the body of an unknown man was found floating in the dam last week.
Arende said that initial investigations showed that the deceased may have committed suicide as no evident injuries were on his body to suggest murder.
The OCS said that the man had no identification documents or a mobile phone or reported cases of missing people which could help with his identification.
He said suicide cases have increased in the area with an average of two bodies being exhumed from the dam every month.
A witness, Mary Kwamboka, who lives in the area, said she had seen the man dive into the dam the previous weekend but was not concerned as she thought the deceased was just swimming.
The body was later retrieved by the police and taken to the Nairobi City mortuary awaiting identification.
Boniface Kamau, another resident, said more bodies could be in the water as people commit suicide in the name of swimming. Kamau said that the victims’ bodies start emerging from the water after a week.
The OCS advised the residents to find amicable ways of addressing their problems and not committing suicide.
