Residents using Thika superhighway section between highpoint town and Kenyatta road experienced heavy traffic jam on Monday evening, after Juja residents took to the streets demanding for information on whereabouts of their MCA.
Led by several members of County assembly, the furious residents demanded that the Juja police boss hasten investigations and update the residents about their missing MCA, Samuel Gitau Munene.
The peaceful protests that occupied the better part of Monday evening paralyzed business in Juja town, leading to closure of many businesses including the newly opened Uchumi supermarket.
Addressing the protestors during the demonstration, Ngarariga Ward MCA Anthony Macharia stated that the police ought to investigate the matter and update the citizens who elected him.
“We demand to know whereabouts of our colleague and leader of Juja Ward. The police have kept us in the dark since Saturday night because they are not picking our calls,” said Macharia.
“None of the police bosses is willing to speak to us. The police are delaying on investigating the whereabouts of Gitau and we will not sit and witness that happen, the residents who elected Gitau have the right to know what is going on,” he added.
However, tension build up after an hour of protests, after rumours from a group of residents stated that a cloth thought to belong to the missing MCA was said to have been seen in a coffee plantation.
The protestors made their way to the Juja coffee plantation where they searched thoroughly for any trace of their leader without success.
The Juja MCA is said to have gone missing on Saturday night, after going to withdraw cash from an ATM in Juja town, following an invitation to a fundraiser in a church the next day, Sunday.
