Hilton, a global brand of full-service hotels and resorts has allocated sh 5.1 billion to renovate and expand  African growth initiative project.

The funding specifically will be used to convert around 100 hostels(about 20,000 rooms) into Hilton-branded properties.Kenya hilton branch known as Amber hotel in Ngong Nairobi which has 109 rooms is under the initiative project too.

By the end of next year the hotel will join the brand and it will be named DoubleTree by Hilton Nairobi Hurlingham.

Elisha Katam, current General Manager, will continue leading the company which is under the franchise agreement with other investors.

Ubumwe Grande Hotel in the Kigali central business district is also set to go through renovations and by next year it will be trading under the Hilton DoubleTree brand of kenya.

“Hilton remains committed to growth in Africa, having been present on the continent for more than 50 years,” said Senior Vice President, Development, Europe, Middle East and Africa Patrick Fitzgibbon in a recent statement according to standard media.

He also added that this would enable the hotel chain to rapidly grow the brand’s portfolio and deliver returns for owners.

Hilton has been in Africa for more than 50 years and currently operates 19 hotels in the sub-Saharan Africa region with a further 29 in the pipeline and they are trying to enlarge their branches across the continent more.
