Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials on Wednesday shot two stray hippos following an attack on fishermen at Lake Naivasha.
The animals which were killed near Oserian Bay, had been blamed for four recent attacks on fishermen last week.
On Saturday, one person was killed by the hippos while another one lost his legs.
Two others sustained serious injuries after they were attacked by the animals while fishing.
"We have been forced to kill two hippos which attacked residents a week ago, seriously injuring one person," a KWS official who sought anonymity said.
Speaking after the incident, the official noted the sharp rise in the number of hippos was due to drop in waters in the Lake Naivasha.
"Unlike the other animals, hippos do not have preys in their natural habitat. They are forced to come out and in the process, attack people and destroy crops," he said.
