Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile has proposed that the IEBC hires bodaboda riders to transport Form 34Bs from polling stations to constituencies tallying centres and the national tallying center at Bomas of Kenya.Ndile who spoke on Wednesday during a public hearing on the proposed changes to the electoral laws said foreign technology companies cannot be trusted with the relay of presidential results from polling stations or from constituencies to Bomas.NASA has accused French IT firm OT-Morpho of interfering with the electronic transmission of results during the August 8 general election, a development that led to the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.“This business of OT-Morpho from France should be stopped. Our main objective is to transport ballots from the polling stations to Bomas of Kenya,” Ndile said amid laughter.“I don’t see any problem with our local courier firms being given the forms and told to transport them to Bomas of Kenya. Technology has its own shortcomings. How many times have we sent mobile money to wrong numbers? In my opinion instead of relying on foreign firms to ferry these forms, let’s hire motorbikes to do this work.”There are currently public hearings going on at City Hall in Nairobi where members of the public are giving their views on the proposed changes to the electoral laws.Among the changes is a proposal fronted by Jubilee Party that the IEBC should not entirely rely on electronic transmission of results. The party wants manual ballot transmission incorporated just in case electronic systems fail.
