Speaking on Thursdays at Gusii stadium during the launch of International Nurses Week, the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) General secretary Seth Panyako said Kisii county should hire more nurses since the county is large and there are many residents who may need health services.

“I respect you the governor of Kisii county because once I ask you anything you promise to do but this county is too large I request you to hire 1,000 more nurses so that the health sector can improve much in this county,” said Panyako.

Panyako also challenged other counties in the country to do the same so that health services can be improved all over.

“We need to join together and look for a better way to overcome the challenge of shortage or understaffed of nurses in our counties,”added Panyako.

Kisii governor James Ongwae who was present at the event said he hired 800 nurses when he came to power and pledged to look into the same.
