Human Rights Network based in Nakuru County led by its member David Kuria has asked government to reduce the teachers to pupils ratio by hiring more teachers to improve performance in public schools.
Kuria said that the shortage of teachers in Public Primary schools has led to continued poor performance in most schools.
"There is a biting shortage of teachers in public primary schools and perhaps teachers should have gone on strike over that. The standards and the quality of education in these schools have gone very low. Employing more teachers will help a big deal,” said Kuria.
Kuria also said that the government should make it possible for public schools to compete with private schools by improving infrastructures in public schools.
"Let the government build good facilities like classrooms for the learners to study in good environment and feel like their mates in private schools,” added Kuria.
Kuria who was speaking to journalists in his Nakuru town office on Monday morning, also asked Members of Parliament to financially support public schools through the Constituency development Funds (CDF) kitty to enable them develop.
