Since the famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga on March 9, 2018, historical events have occurred in the country.
The two rival have unveiled a unity pact dubbed 'building bridges initiative' with a sole purpose of uniting the country and like waving a magic wand over the nation, all the political tension came to an abrupt cessation.
These are unforgettable things that will fade from the mind of Kenyans and will be embedded in Kenya’s history after the famous handshake at the doorsteps of Harambee House.
1. Raila paid a courtesy call to Moi
The ODM leader surprised the nation when he visited the retired president at his residential home in Kabarak, Nakuru. The courtesy call by Mr Oding triggered a tongue wagging as many did not except such move from Mr Odinga concerning the suppression he was subjected by mr Moi during his dictatorial tenure.
2. Orengo visited state house
Senator James Orengo is no doubt that he opposed vehemently the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto. As a result, Mr Orengo did not set foot in state house for more than five years. But on May 4, 2018, Mr. Orengo, was among the dignitaries who visited the house on the hill to witness as President Uhuru signed 12 billion bills for the marginalized communities.
3. Sober state of the nation.
After five years of the rancorous presidential elections, President Kenyatta finally delivered his State of the Nation address to an August House that was soberer and seemingly united. Unlike the past two years in which the Opposition leaders were disrupting and disputing against him and his Jubilee Government, this time around a semblance of restoration was felt as both camp respectfully listened to the address. In 2017, the Opposition leaders intentionally absconded the event on the ground that Mr. Kenyatta had no achievements to talk other than what they termed as political theatrics and shenanigans.
