[Photo|Ramogi FM]Homa Bay County Assembly has passed the National Resistance Movement's motion to establish a People's Assembly in the county, making it second after Siaya County Assembly passed in on Wednesday.During today's (Thursday) sitting the County Assembly Deputy Majority Leader Ruth Ombura said the constitution stipulates that sovereign power belongs to the people and that the powers will be exercised well only if a People's Assembly is established.Various MCAs supported her and endorsed the motion after expressing alleged frustrations by the Jubilee administration.While debating the motion, ward representatives expressed frustration at purported failures by the national government.
The move comes after NASA leader Raila Odinga directed the Parliamentary wing of the National Resistance Movement of NASA to put off all engagements in Nairobi and attend sessions at the County Assemblies where the Motion on the establishment of a People’s Assembly will be going on starting today.Odinga, who arrived in the US Wednesday evening, asked the NRM to attend and stand in solidarity with county assemblies that have will be debating the motion.Through his spokesperson Dennis Onyango, Opposition leader asked NRM parliamentary wing to be at the assemblies beginning Thursday and, where necessary, provide guidance to Members of County Assemblies on the Motion.
