A boda boda rider died on Saturday after he was hit by a speeding vehicle at Daraja Mbili market along Kisii – Migori road.
Witnesses said the driver then sped off from the scene of incident.
“The rider was ferrying a university student when a speeding vehicle hit him from behind at Daraja Mbili market killing him on spot,” said Charles Makori.
Mr Makori said the injured student was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital while the body of the rider was moved to the facility’s morgue.
He asked traffic police officers to be on high alert and ensure they arrest careless drivers.
"Traffic officers have slept on their jobs and its time they became vigilant," he said.
Area police boss Addi Hassan said police are pursuing the vehicle to arrest the driver and charge him in court over murder.
