Out of 6,236 people visiting various Voluntary Counselling and Testing centres (VCT) in Yatta Sub-County in the last month, only, 6,134 agreed to be counselled.

636 of these tested positive.

The sub-county Medical Officer Dr Nimrod Garama said that 306 people were put on antiretroviral drugs while 438 people were placed under home care during the same period.

Dr Garama who was giving briefs on HIV and Aids in the area on Monday also noted that out of 1, 013 couples counselled, only 163 agreed to be tested and only four tested positive.

On Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT), 5,520 were counselled and 5,007 were tested while 244 were found to be HIV positive.

He said that key development partners in the area who were working in collaboration with the ministry of health to control and create awareness were APHIA II Eastern, Pathfinder, African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) and Save the Children Canada.

The medical officer has lauded the move to have beyond zero campaign mobile clinics in the area to fight against HIV prevalence and Mother to Child Transmission.

The mobile clinic has now been handed to Masinga Sub-County.
