People living with HIV/AIDS from Mavoko Sub-county have been encouraged to be more responsible to their health so as to avoid getting more re-infections thereby increasing viral loads in their bodies.

Addressing members of the public during the World AIDS Day celebration in Athi River town on Monday, Phelomena Wanjuku, good-will ambassador said that was the only sure way of minimizing virus infections in the region.

Wanjiku said engagements in risky sexual behavious among the already infected persons posed more risks to them since their lives were shortened with increased viral loads in their systems.

She cautioned those who deliberately engaged in illicit sex with intentions of spreading the virus to those living positively, as way of retaliation with misconceptions that the also contracted the disease from others.

The good-will ambassador advised those already living positively to develop positive attitudes, adhere to doctors advice, ensure drugs adherence, do exercise and take recommended diet to prolong their lives span.

She said contracting the virus was not life sentence, revealing she had lived with the condition for the last twenty years but was strong and determined to move on with her life and achieve her dreams and aspirations.

Wanjiku however called on the general members of the public to be tolerant to one another and shun stigmatization among those already infected.

She advised those living negatively to be carefully cautious not to be infected especially during this festive season that comes with lots of fun and temptations.
