What would you do if you make an impromptu visit to your baby care centre and find the teacher breastfeeding your baby?
Well, you will probably get the shock of your life! What if before you fully absorb the shock you are told that the teacher is HIV positive?
Well, it sounds awkward but that is what Mwende (not her real name) got herself into last week.
After her baby innocently told her that their teacher usually gives them "nyonyo" before lulling them to sleep, she was shocked beyond words.
She rushed the baby to the hospital and confirmed the worst. Her baby tested HIV positive!
She went to the baby care centre located in Kitengela but she was a little too late.
The news of the HIV-positive teacher breastfeeding the 20 babies under her care and probably infecting all of them had spread like bush fire, not only in Kitengela but also in Athi River where she lives.
My attempts to get other parents' comments and what punishment the "evil" teacher was given were fruitless.
