The HIV/Aids Tribunal has called on Nakuru residents facing discrimination over their HIV status to promptly report the matter to them.

Mercy Mbeche from the tribunal based in Nairobi on Tuesday called on members of the public not to shy away from the court adding that it was founded to help address discrimination arising from the disease.

"We at the tribunal are challenging those of you who have been discriminated against because of their HIV status to report such matters to us so that we can help you. Do not be afraid to share your frustrations with us," she said.

She added that the tribunal is not charging any legal fee and dealt with cases such as dismissal from work due to HIV infection, disclosure of HIV status without prior permission or being denied the chance to marry because of one's status.

She also reiterated that the tribunal was in the process of establishing its branches across the remaining 46 counties to help fight biases against people living with HIV.

She was speaking during an event to mark The World Aids Day at the Nyayo gardens in Nakuru.
