Ever since Hivisasa was launched in Kenya it has opened doors to so many young people, considering the level of unemployment in the Kenya. Learning to freelance is an art that takes time and patience, and if you will be good enough definitely you will rip the benefits.
Having finished my Diploma studies in Journalism at MT Kenya University I thought I would graduate and get a good job but that is not how it worked out, I had to be idol and jobless. A friend introduced me to Hivisasa and told me how I could earn from it other than just waiting for a job that could not come any sooner, this was one way to shaping my writing skills and it all started here.
However after I started writing my articles were being rejected day in day out, almost gave up but came in one time I wrote a story just from my ghetto and you know what? It got published. Take this I wasn't happy for the Ksh 100, I was happy to see my articles getting views and being read online for the first time after such a while.
This made me feel that what matters mostly is 'Doing' other than just reading the theory part which never helped. Hivisasa editors would call me from time to time to correct me on how to write following the 5Ws rule and the inverted pyramid style, they taught me patience and how to become a better writer. Several youths have this myth that if you graduate you know everything to do with that course but hey my articles were rejected and I heard to learn from the beginner level.
Am not there yet but atleast am somewhere.
Kindly share what has Hivisasa helped you achieve in where you are right now?
