The county government of Nyamira under Governor John Nyagarama is yet again finding itself under pressure to hold dialogue with youths to reduce tensions that have intensified between the two sides.

This comes just two days after a Youth Summit was disrupted on Sunday at Nyamaiya stadium as police arrested conveners on allegations of having not notified the security forces.

Organizers of the botched summit have since blamed the county leadership for the stalemate with the county denying the claims.

A leading youthful politician from Borabu Mr Mark Otendo has now joined a section of other youths to call for dialogue to end the animosity between the two groups.

“I think this isn’t the first time the county is urged to call for dialogue. The Sunday’s botched summit is just but a beginning of many more political tensions that may hinder growth in our county. Time has come for the county government t to call the youthful population to the table and discuss some of the problems they are facing,” he said on Tuesday in a local youth Summit in Borabu.

He faulted the county governor’s approach in dealing with the youths and cautioned him of a possible political shock in his bid to secure the gubernatorial seat 2017.

“It’s now evident that you cannot ignore these youths anymore. You need them in 2017 and they seem to be having numbers. My advice is that you (John Nyagarama) hold dialogue with them for your own good. I am not the first one to advise the county leadership the same because I have seen or read somewhere with people pleading that youths are given chance to square their issues with the Governor,” he said.

Among the grievances of youths include lack of inclusivity in the county government, skewed tendering and rampant unemployment.
