A research team at Hong Kong University’s AIDs Institute https://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/article-scientists-say-new-research-points-to-functional-cure-for-hiv/ has revealed that they might have found a real cure for HIV. HIV is a virus known to cause AIDs. The cure could be used for both prevention and cure of the deadly disease.
The team, being led by Professor Chen Zhiwei would be the savior of China which is facing a growing epidemic issue (HIV/AIDs) among both commercial sex workers and gay men. Currently, China is believed to have a total of 850, 000 HIV infected people.
The discovery, which got tested on mice, reveals that the antibiotic helps control the virus and even eliminate infected cells in the body. More so, the antibiotic could treat all varieties of HIV/AIDs.
“For our newly discovered bispecific antibody, it works for all of them, so that’s a major difference,” said Chen.
The findings, found in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, will help people with HIV to keep the virus under total control, which will even stop the virus from infecting new cells. The antibiotic is yet to give a real trial.
