Coalition for Reforms and Democracy co-principal Raila Odinga has called upon the government to honour departed veteran politician John Keen by ensuring that the coming general elections are conducted in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner.
Speaking on Friday during the burial ceremony of the former Kajiado North lawmaker in his Namanga home, Kajiado County, Raila urged President Uhuru Kenyatta-led government to ensure that no violence erupts during or after the polls slated for August next year.
"In honour of the late John Keen, I urge the Jubilee team to ensure that the next general polls are peaceful," he said.
The opposition chief who was also accompanied by a section of leaders from his block including the immediate former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale is deemed to be among the leaders eyeing the Presidential seat in the coming election and is among the leaders in the frontline in demanding for free and fair elections.
The same comments were echoed by Senator Khalwale, who said that the only way the election will be peaceful is if it is done in a transparent way.
The late John Keen died on Sunday, December 25 after being admitted in a Nairobi hospital. He had served as assistant minister of internal security.
