Kisumu County gender activist Mariam Abdallah has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to employ the three-thirds gender rule when appointing cabinet secretaries.Abdallah said the gender rule is the only way of ensuring that women get a bigger representation in President Kenyatta’s second Cabinet before he retires at the end of his term in 2022.“I don’t think women are demanding too much. If the President is actually very wise he should hear the voice of women because they are the majority in this country,” said Abdallah in Kisumu on Wednesday. “I think women for a very long time have been marginalised in terms of culture and very many other things,” she added.President Kenyatta is yet to name his full cabinet close to a month after he named a partial one. The partial cabinet consists of nine cabinet secretaries, all of whom are men.Female CSs who continue to occupy cabinet posts following last year’s elections are Amina Mohamed (Foreign affairs) Sicily Kariuki (Public Services), Raychaelle Omamo (Defense), Judy Wakhungu (Environment) and Phylis Kandie (Labour). It is not known whether the female CSs will retain their posts when the President names his full Cabinet.
