The famous Sigiri bridge in Budalang'i constituency which collapsed in June 2017 over shoddy work is nearing completion.
This is relief to the residents who use it to ferry produce to various markets in the border sub county as well as access schools and hospitals.
Area MP Raphael Wanjala on Tuesday said the bridges' completion will ease transport in the constituency especially during rainy seasons when river Sigiri floods.
The bridge hit the headlines in June 26, 2017 after it collapsed less than two weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta and then area MP Ababu Namwamba inspected construction works.
Masons working on the Sh1.2 billion investment when it collapsed were injured and treated at various health facilities in the Budalang'i.
While commissioning the bridge then Uhuru said he was concerned over numerous boat accidents that happen in the area as residents cross the river while transacting their business.
Wanjala said three months ago that the bridge will be complete by June and it will be launched immediately construction works are over.
"Construction works at Sigiri Bridge going on well. The project will be done by mid-2018," the MP said.
When it collapsed, then area MP Ababu Namwamba came under sharp criticism as residents blamed the contractor for doing shoddy work.
