Amid numerous calls for Garissa residents to embrace crop farming, there lies a light of after national government announced that it has allocated Sh46 billion to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in the current financial year.
The Jubilee government says the massive allocation is in line with its commitment to promote agricultural mechanization through extending support to all livestock and crop farmers at the county levels with the aim of ensuring a nutritionally-sufficient and food secured country.
With the Sh46 billion allocated to the sector, the government seeks to finance agriculture initiatives targeted at lowering the cost of living with availability of cheap and healthy foods.
However, to ensure that the allocated monies are well appropriated, county governments have been urged to set up Agricultural Mechanization and Service Stations to help stabilize food production projects as well as to subsidize services to small scale farmers.
