Hundreds of workers at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi have been fired without notice.

Sources say that the impromptu firing that happened on Friday is part of an effort by Aga Khan's Chief Executive Officer Shawn Bolouki to replace workers with outsourced services.

The workers received phone calls and text messages on Thursday informing them to go to the main hospital and their Muthithi outreach branch.

On arrival the following morning, they were all fired.

New workers from outsourced service firms have since reported to work.
