Ecobank in conjunction with Ogra Foundation has commissioned a Sh 80,000 mosquito repellant at Kisumu sub-county hospital paediatric ward to help in the fight against malaria.
Ogra Foundation CEO Gabriel Amollo said the move is part of an anti malaria drive in the region that targets expectant mothers and children under the age of five.
“Part of the campaign will include free distribution of mosquito treated nets in all the low income areas like Manyatta, Nyalenda, Obunga, Nyawita, and Bandani among others,” he said.
Speaking at the hospital while unveiling the machine, Amollo said such machines have been installed at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital and the Kisii level 5 Hospital.
He noted that another 600 homes will benefit from indoor residual spraying to help in the fight against malaria.
“The campaign will also offer free education on malaria prevention methods to the locals, as the disease remains a major public health challenge in the lakeside region and Ogra will continue with such partnerships to avoid malarial related deaths,” he said.
Kisumu Sub-county Hospital medical superintendent, Amos Otedo, said the government is keen to reduce the mortality attributable to malaria in the county.
