Hospital Ward MCA JB Mwangi has accused traffic officials in the area of failing to tame rising road accidents in Thika.

Addressing residents at Thika town on Monday, Mwangi said that cases of accidents are escalating in the area.

The MCA said that traffic law enforcers are reluctant to get rid of rogue motorists who continue to cause accidents.

Mwangi observed that cases of over-speeding are common among motorists especially along the Thika- Garissa road.

“We are tired of hearing and seeing innocent people lose their lives as a result of accidents in this area,” he said, adding that the government needs to urgently intervene and arrest rogue motorists.

Mwangi urged the government through the National Traffic and Safety Authority (NTSA) to intervene and get rid of rogue motorists.

The Hospital Ward MCA was reacting to the latest accident where a middle aged man Mr Onesmus Kimani Ndung’u was killed when his car was rammed into by a bus on Sunday.

The deceased who is the vice chairman of the Ngogoyo 237 Sacco in Thika died on the spot when a bus belonging to the Kenya Mpya Sacco rammed his car.

According to police, the deceased swerved on the road before being hit by the bus.

There has been an outcry among Thika residents over the rise in accidents involving the Kenya Mpya buses.

On Monday last week two school girls were hit and seriously injured by a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Matatu as they crossed the Thika-Garissa road near the Cravers hotel.

Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia has since vowed to lead a serious crackdown on rogue motorists in the area.
