Uasin Gishu County in conjunction with Amref has embarked on a project meant to automate all health services in the county through information and communications technology (ICT) for easy access and improvement of services.

Speaking at an ICT Consultants Forum on the road map in developing ICT Programmes for counties on Wednesday, the county executive member for ICT and E-Government Barnabas Sang said the project dubbed E-Health will enhance service delivery, proper file management, reduce corruption, transform livelihood and increase income.

“Amref has accepted to pay 90% of the Sh2 billion while the county government through the ministry of ICT and E-Government will pay the remaining 10%. The portals will enable patients to access their health records on line as well as converse doctors easily," he said.

Sang said his docket has been allocated Sh63 in this financial year which is a drop in the ocean compared to the amount needed for ICT integration services.

“People are still in the dark and think that ICT only deals with repair and maintenance.  They need to know ICT is the engine for faster economic growth and a platform to attain the Vision 2030 which is attributed to information technology,” he said.

He said his ministry will involve youths in a bid to utilise local talents in service provision since the youth have the ability to produce good results.
