More than 80 hotel operators in Kisii town and its surroundings were arrested for not keeping standards of health decreed by the government.
According to Kisii County health executive Sarah Omache, they had warned the hotel operators in advance since the neighbouring county face a cholera outbreak.
Omache said that the disease had become so serious that medical workers had been urged to look out for signs of the contagious disease such as; watery diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps and general unwell feeling with dehydration.
“I’m happy that a successful operation was done and those who were arrested will be arraigned in court for putting other people’s lives at risk. Now that the disease have been reported in the county we must take all the precautions and make sure we avoid the disease from spreading more,” said Omache.
This comes after initial cases were reported in the neighboring Migori and Homa Bay counties, where people were reported dead. Cases of cholera have also been reported in the Suneka sub-county over the past weekend.
