Many hoteliers at the Coast have attributed their increased revenues to a surge in the number of local tourists with some of the hotels still booked until January 7th.
The hoteliers said that local tourism was boosted by Madaraka Express which is cheaper compared to bus and takes a shorter time to get to Mombasa.
They also said that direct flights operated by local airlines such as JamboJet and Fly540 have made it easier for tourists to get to places such as Diani and Watamu.
In an interview with The Business Daily, Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort Managing Director Hasnain Noorani said that this holidays wouldn’t have been better without local tourists especially from Nairobi and other places around the country.
“Our hotel is popular with locals from Nairobi and other parts of the country. We have an aqua park specifically for children. We also offer menus with traditional items. The affordable train fares and shorter travel periods have motivated many locals to travel from upcountry to Mombasa,” Noorani said as quoted by the Business Daily.
“Our hotel will be busy up to January 7 when some local holidaymakers will be traveling back to work, while some foreign guests will be flying back to Italy.”
