Four hoteliers found themselves in a Thika court for failing to dress appropriately while handling food contrary to public health regulations.
The four Leah Waithira, Juliah Wanjiku, Joseph Mwangi and Francis Njiru Nyaga were charged that on September 29 at Kabati trading centre, Muranga County, they were found selling food without a valid medical certificate and without wearing the stipulated uniforms.
Appearing before the Thika Resident Magistrate Esther Mburu, they all pleaded guilty and were fined Sh5,000 each or serve a jail term of six months each in default.
On the count of not having a valid medical certificate, they were fined Sh2,500 each or face a jail term of three months in default.
Passing the sentence, the magistrate said that the sentence will serve as a deterrent to food handlers who hawk food around the towns without medical certificates and hoteliers who sell food without wearing a clean uniform.
The accused persons were found with an assortment of food ranging from mukimo to samosas.
