Hoteliers in Kisumu are a happier lot ahead of the festive season as they record full bookings even as major events continue to take place in the city.
Sunday marked the end of the Luo cultural festival but the start of yet another major event, the 114th anniversary of the lakeside town.
The seven day event starting tomorrow will be succeeded by New Year mega prayer rally convened by Prophet David Owuor of the Repentance and Holiness Ministry.
Chairman of the Western Kenya Hotel Managers Association Robinson Anyal said most hotels were already fully booked from the eve of Christmas to January 2, 2016.
“Our hotels have full bookings with some visitors spilling over to neighbouring towns,” said Anyal.
“Food and accommodation for international visitors who will be attending the New Year prayers have been booked in high-end hotels,” he added.
Prophet Owuor, whose prayer rallies attract thousands of worshippers will begin on December 28 and run till January 1 at the city’s Kibos grounds.
The series of events will not only awaken Kisumu but also have a big impact on its economy as well as boost entertainment and hospitality industries in the area.
