Owners of eateries and food joints without toilets in Thika Town may soon find themselves on the wrong side of the law after Thika Public Health Officer Peter Mburu issued a warning saying those who will not comply will face the law.
Speaking in Majengo on Tuesday, Mburu underscored the importance of the toilets saying they are key in maintaining public hygiene and sanitation.
"Very soon we are going to undertake a crackdown on food joints, hotels, restaurants within the town that are yet to meet the public health standards. So, we are sending a prior warning to those who know that they are yet to comply to do so before it is too late," said Mburu.
The health officer noted that the last time they conducted a crackdown on food joints without elaborate waste disposal methods it bore fruits as many of them complied.
"It seems that many of them understand the language of force which we may indeed apply if they don't comply in the shortest time possible," he said.
Mburu said that only a few food joints in Majengo have toilets.
The public health officer noted that the majority of the food joints were sending their customers who ask for toilets in their neighborhoods which he said was unacceptable.
