Three children died in Makawani village in Tharaka Nithi County on Tuesday morning after their house caught fire.
According to the Star, their parents were away when the house caught fire.
The three were aged 10 months, two and four years.
Kithangani sub-location assistant chief Jamleck Mugambi said the parents had locked them inside the house to go and work on their farm.
One of the witnesses, Margaret Muthoni, said she heard screams as she was going to work.
“I rushed to the scene and found neighbours trying to help but the fire had consumed half the house," she said.
Mugambi said neighbours tried to put out the fire in vain.
The cause of the fire has not been established but Mugambi said it could have been as a result of the solar system which the family had been using.
Their bodies were moved to Chuka hospital mortuary.
