A house girl who subjected a minor that had been entrusted in her care to physical harm was arraigned in a Nakuru Court, where she denied the charges levelled against her. The 26 year-old, Charity Nekesa, tortured the minor on diverse dates in March and April this year. “She caused physical injuries, psychological and physiological injuries to the minor who was left under her care by her mother who had travelled a broad on business trip,” the court was told. Chief Resident Magistrate Samuel Mungai was told by the prosecution desk that the accused on several occasions beat up the 6 year-old minor and locked her in the house for several hours while denying her food. The court heard that, her mother who often travels outside the country upon return on April 17 had noticed physical injuries on her child’s body and carried out investigations. The child had told her mother that the house girl had on several occasions pinched her and inflicted injuries on her face, ears and legs and detained her in the house to prevent her from playing with other children in the neighbourhood in Race Course estate within Nakuru town. The accused however denied the charges and was remanded in custody until the hearing of the case on May 18 after failing to raise a cash bail of Sh 20,000 or a cash bond of Sh 30,000.
