Opposition leader Raila Odinga has sensationally claimed that security agents almost stripped named Ex – IEBC commissioner Roselyne Akombe when she made her first attempt to flee the country in August.
Akombe, who until her resignation, was an employee of UN, cited death threats and external interference in the commission as the main reasons behind her exit.
“Her luggage was removed from the plane she was travel in by security agents’ moments before takeoff,” said Odinga, adding that he immediately contacted her.
With only two days to elections, the commission is struggling to convince Kenyans on its ability to deliver credible elections, even after Chairman Wafula Chebukati admitted on unpreparedness.
Thinking that she was in possession of evidence on August bungled elections, Odinga said, the authorities manhandled her before US intervened.
“We talked and she told me that they had tried to strip her naked as they searched for any possible evidence and secrets on the annulled presidential results,” he said.
In her statement from New York hours after sneaking out of the country, Akombe insisted that IEBC is not in a position to hold free and fair elections due to inference by unnamed politicians.
