Drinking when pregnant can be very harmful to the mother but more so to the baby.Alcohol can pass from the mother's blood into the baby's system.

It can damage and affect the growth of the baby's cells. Brain and spinal cord cells are most likely to be affected. This may lead to  intellectual problems noticed later in life.A child may have a small head, flat face, and narrow eye openings, for instance. This gets more obvious by age 2 or 3 years.

Growth problems. Children who were exposed to alcohol before they were born may be smaller than other children of the same age.Heavy alcohol use during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage which means that the baby did not survive, this is a danger to the mother as it may lead to heavy bleeding and other serous complications

Mothers need to ensure that their unborn babies are developing as they should. Alcohol can cause alot of damage to the baby as stated above.

Pregnant women who have an alcohol probelm need to see a doctor for them to be advised on how to ensure that the child is born healthy and that mother safe too
