NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga has now distanced himself from his earlier stance where he stood against independent candidates.

This comes after strong criticism that he risked the presidency if he took a hard stance against independent candidates.

“The independents need to campaign for themselves, they are on their own,” he said then.

However, the ODM leader has now changed the tune after his Tuesday declaration to a group of independent candidates at Orange House that he was not against them.

He held a closed-door meeting with the independents led by Nyatike MP Omondi Anyanga, Kisumu Women Rep Rose Nyamunga, former PS Carey Orege, former assistant minister Ayiecho Olweny and Richard Muga.

Political analyst and lawyer Martin Oloo has now moved to explain why Raila took the twist decision.

He said that unlike the previous elections, the Opposition leader this time needs to have everyone on his side.

“Raila needs everyone. He needs every single vote available if he is to win the elections and does not have the liberty to choose who he wants support from,” said Oloo.
