Former Cabinet Minister Henry Kosgey has narrated how the late Bishop Cornelius Korir played a critical role when he was facing crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Kosgey, a former Tindiret MP in Nandi County, was among the six Kenyans who had been accused of being behind the deadly 2007/08 post-election violence.

All the cases collapsed later.

Speaking at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret town on Thursday during Souls Mass, Kosgey said Bishop Korir encouraged him to read the Bible during the hard times.

"When other people were telling me to look for the best lawyers, Bishop Korir prayed for me and asked that I keep reading Psalm 91 which I did until now I can recite that verse," he said.

Kosgey further termed Bishop Korir as a friend who dedicated his life to selflessly serving the people.

"The bishop hosted over 7,000 people affected by the 2007 skirmishes but he never demanded compensation from the government and this clearly shows the kind of leader he was."
