Interior Affairs Cabinet Secretary Fred Mating’i has revealed how the Canadian embassy in Nairobi tried to intervene in the lawyer Miguna Miguina row with Immigration officers at JKIA last week. This after Miguna refused to hand over is Canadian passport for stamping as required by the law.
Speaking on Tuesday morning, Matiang’i said that through Foreing Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, the government organized meeting between Miguina and Canadian officials.
He stated that their efforts hit a brick wall because Miguna refused to hand over his passport.
“The Canadian High Commissioner sent consular officers to the airport to meet Miguna and they spent 3 hours persuading him either to give his passport to be stamped or they could try to find a way of facilitating him, in a diplomatic manner, to get out of the airport. He refused,” he said.
He further stated that Miguna lawyers did not serve him with court papers as claimed earlier.
