IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati’s next course of action will either end or revive opposition leader Raila Odinga’s political career, says constitutional lawyer Moseti Moseti.
Having made unprecedented decision to bow out of the race and subsequently ruling by High Court that ordered inclusion of other candidates in repeat presidential elections, Odinga’s prolific political career remains uncertain.
“He may have been guided by Supreme Court ruling of 2013 which was quashed by High Court. It is Chebukati’s move that will define his destiny,” he says.
With Only three days to elections, Chebukati will have tough decisions to choose from, given the fact that he has cast doubts on the credibility of his own commission.
Last week, a rather lonely Chubukati urged politicians from both political divide to embrace dialogue, a move that now remains just an ‘illusion’.
“If Chebukati resigns before elections and if Uhuru Kenyatta may have not signed election laws, then Odinga will be a beneficiary because elections will be postponed.
“Should the chairman cancel the elections by going to Supreme Court, Odinga will still survive. These are the only viable options,” adds Moseti.
Throughout his campaigns, a highly secretive Odinga has urged his supporters to go to streets to call for removal of certain IEBC officials.
And Moseti further says should elections go on as planned, and then Odinga’s last remaining choice in his quest for presidency will be the Supreme Court yet again.
