Students leave the University of Nairobi main campus after the institution was closed indefinitely was on October 3, 2017. [Photo: nation.co.ke]The closure of the University of Nairobi is a big blow to NASA's anti-IEBC rallies.Kiambu Town MP Jude Njomo has said that the institution was 'like a bank where Nasa used to go shopping for protesters to flood the streets of Nairobi'."It is good that the university has been closed down and that was a wise move by the university administration. We don't have to wait for the whole institution to go into ashes before acting. But I have to state here that this will deal a huge drawback to NASA's anti-IEBC rallies," Njomo told Citizen TV Extra on Tuesday.Njomo added that many universities students' politics have been infiltrated by national politics which are 'divisive and dangerous in nature'.The University Senate resolved to close the institution on Tuesday 9 am due to security concerns according to the Director of Corporate Affairs John Orindi."We will announce when the institution will re-open," said Orindi as quoted by Nation. The development comes in the wake of last week's protest by students which left 27 of them injured.Last Thursday, the students engaged the General Service Unit riot team in running battles as they protested the arrest of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
