[Photo/NMG]The Kenya Copyright Society (KCS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education will train booksellers in a bid to overcome selling of counterfeit learning materials to schools.KCS Deputy chief legal counsel Sharon Chahale said the move is aimed at saving the publishers and the government millions of shilling lost in the hands of pirates.Chahale confirmed that many booksellers across the country have in the recent past been selling pirated copies unknowingly."Many booksellers across the country are currently selling pirated books than they are doing originals. They are, however doing it unknowingly something that has cost publishers and copyright owners billions of shillings," Chahale said as reported on KCS website.She added: "This is why we have rolled out an intense campaign to curb this vice and save publishers and intellectual property owners."Chahale spoke during the Kenya Book Sellers and Stationery Association AGM held at the at the Kenya School of Government in Baringo county last weekend.She noted that, after proper sensitization many booksellers caught selling counterfeits will have their businesses closed down as well as being prosecuted in a court of law.
