Following “revelations” by former TNA secretary general Onyango Oloo that the 2013 polls were rigged in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta, opposition Cord is now planning to block him (Uhuru) from seeking a second term.
Cord on Sunday threatened to move to court to challenge Uhuru’s suitability to run for public office.
“We are reflecting and reviewing what we have so far (from Oloo) so as to see if we can make legal appeals on the basis of electoral fraud and misconduct,” Siaya Senator James Orengo said, as quoted by the Standard.
Orengo said they will ask the court to take legal action against the President, with the intervention of EACC and the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko.
The petition by Cord challenging Uhuru’s win in 2013 polls was dismissed by the Supreme Court on grounds that there was no sufficient evidence to support mass election irregularity claims.
Oloo, who has since joined Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), claims that the actual number of votes Uhuru got in the 2013 presidential election were inflated to ensure he beats Raila.
His claims have however been dismissed by Jubilee MPs, among them Johnson Sakaja, who was TNA national chairman.
Sakaja says Oloo was only in charge of administrative functions at the party, and knows nothing about how the campaigns were conducted.
