Mohammed Ali, before the August 7, 2017 general decried being shortchanged during ODM party primaries in April 2017.
He accused ODM Deputy Party Leader, Mombasa Governor Ali Joho of plotting to deny him victory, saying he ensured rigging in favour of his opponent, Joho's cousin, Said Abdalla alias Saedo.
"At first we had only three polling stations that were open, the other ten which were my strongholds were closed until I complained that is when they were re-opened at 3 pm when some of the voters had already left," said Ali.
He noted Nyali constituency had 15 polling stations but only three were stronghold of Saedo.
"Voters were allowed to vote more than twice in different polling stations. No finger ink was used to differentiate those who had voted and those who had not voted. My opponent had already printed more than 3,000 voting papers that were already marked in favor of my opponent. By good luck, the police intercepted the papers before getting to the polling stations."
"I cannot blame ODM for what transpired. I blame an individual who doesn’t believe in democracy and equitable sharing of resources," Ali said, citing Joho.
"In short I was not contesting against Abdalla but I was contesting against the whole family of Joho. So I cannot blame ODM or Jubilee for what happened," added the former investigative journalist.
Saedo garnered 3,671 votes in the primaries, flooring Ali who got 2987 for the Nyali parliamentary ODM ticket.
Moha is now Joho's strong critic.
