Nairobi county speaker Beatrice Elachi can now rest easy after surviving an ouster motion that was drafted by Waithaka MCA Mr Anthony Karanja.
Karanja has managed to convince 43 MCAs who had signed and the motion was set to be tabled before the county assembly, however, Deputy President William Ruto came to the aid of the first time county Speaker.
Karanja cited the violation of the Constitution, undermining the authority of the County Assembly Service Board and abuse of office as grounds for his motion to impeach Elachi.
Reliable sources have indicated that DP Ruto read the riot act to Jubilee members, more so to the Majority leader Abdi Guyo and who dared to impeach Elachi and county clerk Mr Jacob Ngwele.
“The DP said the members should stop tarnishing the party’s name," said one the source.
Meanwhile, DP Ruto has set up a team to meet Elachi ans Ngwele for arbitration but MCA Karanja has complained after being asked to drop the motion.
